A Duluth middle-school student is hospitalized with a broken leg after running into a moving vehicle.

Police say the incident happened just after 12:30 P.M. outside Woodland Middle School on Friday.

Authorities say a 10-year-old girl attending the school ran between two parked buses and struck a moving truck. Officials say the child struck the vehicle on one of its fenders.

Police say the student also suffered a head abrasion, but authorities say the child's injuries do not appear to be serious at this time.

Officials say the driver of the truck is not at fault.

Police would like to remind students to take extra precaution when it comes to crossing roadways.

how could you accuse the driver of doing something wrong? they werent speeding! if that child had stopped and looked before running out between the buses, she would be ok. Sounds like that kid, as well as others need to learn from this and STOP and LOOK before you run out into a street where vehicles are moving!!

Middle school children should first off know, not to run in between buses. Stop, look, and look again. Parents these days really need to stress to their children the importance of stopping and looking, and drivers too need to be aware that children may come out of nowhere. There was just a bad instance last week in southern WI where a child got it from darting out into the road. It wasn't the drivers fault. Thank gosh it wasn't nothing to serious!!

Middle school children should learn from this incident. School staff is in place to deter this type of situation. Rather than interpretting the staff as "nagging" please listen and follow the rules for your own safety. Sadly, middle school human nature at this level takes over and the supervisory staff outside is challenged instead of heard. I would hate to see Woodland take a beating for this as they are working hard daily for the students safety and well being. No small task these days.

Kids learn in kindergarten never to walk between busses for a variety of reasons. Drivers learn in drivers education to be defensive drivers and slow down in school zones. This was a very unfortunate incident for both concerned. If we try to put ourselves in each of the victims places we may be able to accept if for just that and learn from it.

well if u r running between 2 buses it may not be the smartest idea especially in a school parking lot and if the girl was running the oposite direction then the truck even if the the truck is going very slow and they colide then it is very possible to break a leg it is very sad what has happened here and i am not faulting anyone here. when my friend txted me what happened i almost started crying. so lets all remember to be more careful when crossing streets and around cars from now on.

I'm a bus driver and have picked up children from woodland, and If you read the article the girl ran out from inbetween two bus. Its obvious from the article that she ran out and struck the truck thus hitting the truck in its fender and not the front end.

My father was a Driver's Ed instructor, he always said to drive defensively and pay attention, lets remember this is a child, and who is bigger, the child or the vehicle, lets put the responsibility where it lies, where are the crossing guards, where was the attention of the driver? A little more then a mile from my house is a memorial for a little boy who was killed by the bus, fortunately this girl is alive and hopefully will be okay.

they make it sound like the girl hit the truck when the truck had hit the girl if she had hit the truck she wouldn't have broken her leg. The rumor that was going around was that she had tripped, but it isn't certain of what happened unless there was an actual witness.
