That same dense fog dampened some areas of the state on the opening day of Wisconsin's gun deer season.

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources report 626,404 hunters hit the woods for opening day of Wisconsin's gun deer hunting season.

As the kill came in, wildlife officials reported a large percentage of older bucks, many with nice antler development.

By late Saturday afternoon, 2 non-fatal shooting accidents had taken place.

One Green County hunter received a gunshot wound to the thigh and another Grant County male was shot just below the buttocks.

Those incidents can be traced back to failure to follow the basics of firearm safety.
