A former US Senator now running for governor or Minnesota is going public with a very private struggle.

Mark Dayton revealed today that he's battled mild depression for years and relapsed in his recovery from alcoholism while serving in the US Senate.

He checked himself into a treatment center in 2006 and has been sober since.

He says going public with these details is part of the price of admission into the 2010 political arena.

Dayton is among 10 other democratic candidates campaigning for Minnesota Governor.

There are 7 Republican candidates as well.
