For several hours, five days a week, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay, you'll find Rodney "Hot Rod" Ludolph doing his day job.
"What I do everyday is what I do best,” Rodney said while mopping.
Rodney is in charge of making sure the church is clean.
"He knows the Routine very well,” said Lance Hakala. He is Rodney’s caretaker.
"There's a few things here and there I got to remind him about it,” said Hakala. “Right away it's like I forgot about that. He's so willing to do it right away
When Rodney isn't working you'll find him volunteering at a number of places, too many to list, in fact.
"He does want to please at all times,” Hakala said. “His smile is contagious and more people are smiling every time they see him."
Several days a week Rodney, with the help of Hakala, delivers meals to folks on a 24 mile route. Rodney also shovels snow, cleans gutters and distributes mail at the Minnesota Veterans Home.
"He's very loving, free willed, in so many ways,” said Hakala.
A young man Determined to please despite personal challenges.
“He reads very well and comprehends well, “Hakala said. “He has trouble expressing himself."
The self-described speed demon always has something going on but even he understands he needs a break. And even on those days off, Rodney takes on the world.
"That's besides being an artist, researcher, and a gentlemen and a scholar,” Rodney said.
