AT&T has agreed to stop construction on a cell phone tower within two miles of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area until a court hearing on August 4th.
The decision comes on the heels of temporary injunction request filed by the organization Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. The group argues the cell phone tower would be an eyesore, distinctly noticeable throughout a large portion of the boundary waters area.
The executive director of the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness says it's not reliable cell phone service they are against, just the impact it would have on the pristine wilderness area.
They hope AT&T will use the next month to come up with alternative ideas to provide cell phone service.
