Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -Saint Louis County union workers have voted to ratify a new contact.
AFSCME negotiators say the deal prevents a strike by two-thirds of the county's workforce.
Steve Kniefel, who leads AFSCME's negotiating team says the settlement has the county accepting the union's offer on accumulated sick leave.
As a result current and future employees will be able to bank up to 1,500 hours of sick leave, except for those who have already earned sick leave over the new cap.
AFSCME Local 66 represents over one thousand county employees.
The contract is expected to go before the County Board for final approval in October.
