Cloquet, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Multiple Oscar and Emmy winning actress, and Cloquet resident, Jessica Lange, is urging Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton to suspend the state's 2013 wolf hunt.

The two-time Academy Award winner wrote a letter to Dayton, on behalf of the anti-hunt group, Howling for Wolves.

Lange says the methods used to trap and kill wolves are cruel.

She feels the wolf hunt is not a good idea because Minnesota's wolf population has declined by 25 percent over the last five years.

DNR researchers, however, say the state's wolf population can sustain a hunt.

In an attempt to stop the wolf hunt, which begins November 9, Howling for Wolves is hoping to collect more than 50,000 signatures on a petition which they hope to present to Governor Dayton.

Governor Dayton says only the state legislature can change the plan for a wolf hunt.
