Intense investigation leads to charges in 2013 fatal crash

Sarona, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Washburn County District Attorney is bringing charges against the alleged driver in a fatal high speed crash in which investigators say alcohol was a factor.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigated the crash, which happened July 21st, 2013.

Edward Depies of Sarona, WI, faces two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle as well as one count of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Investigators believe Depies was driving his Ford Mustang in excess of 120 miles per hour on County A just before the crash which resulted in the deaths of Molly Undem and Don Roberts; Timothy Wolhford and Ed Depies were injured.

All four occupants had been thrown from the car, and investigators say beer cans and bottles were strewn around the scene and inside the automobile.

Seven hours after the crash Depies registered a blood alcohol level of .075. Edward Depies first court appearance will be on June 30, 2014.
