Anti-Bullying Law Passes Through MN House Floor

May 6, 2013 Updated May 7, 2013 at 10:31 AM CDT

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Minnesota House passed a bill today beefing up anti–bullying laws 72 to 57.

The Safe and Supportive Schools bill aims to give a facelift to what is currently considered to be one of weakest anti–bullying laws in the nation.

The Bill encourages Districts and schools to provide tools to help students identify and prevent cyber bullying, harassment, and intimidation while students are at school.

Opponents say the measure would not allow schools to develop their own approaches to anti–bullying practices.

The senate is set to discuss the bill this week in an education committee.
