Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- In this week's "Ask a Trooper" article, Sgt. Curtis Mowers of the Minnesota State Patrol discusses the scary and dangerous problem of drivers pulling up to stop signs too fast.
Question: Can you write about the cars that come up way too fast to stop signs? This is scary and dangerous and you can’t tell if they are going to stop or not! Some don’t stop and they pull out in front of you. This is a big pet peeve of mine and of many other people I speak with. Also, thanks for all you do for us to keep us safe.
Answer: That really is a scary and dangerous situation for sure. Many law enforcement officers have attended serious injury and fatal crashes because of this. I am not sure if anything I say about it would make a difference, but when I see that happening, I slow way down, because like everyone else, I can’t tell if the vehicle is going to stop or not either, and I don’t want to end up in a crash.
Some people are just aggressive drivers—those drivers you describe are very aggressive. Most of them have developed habits over a long period of time and those bad habits are hard to break. The drivers that do what you describe might just be in a hurry and they tend to take off fast, and come to abrupt stops. It is a poor example and I agree that it causes a problem. We all need to take responsibility for our own actions behind the wheel. Thanks for the comment and thanks for asking.
