Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- The University of Minnesota-Duluth announced that the search for a new Athletic Director is now underway.
UMD Assistant Athletic Director, Karen Stromme, took over the head athletic director job in an interim role after former athletic director and head football coach, Bob Nielson, left UMD to become the head football coach at Western Illinois.
The athletic director is responsible for supervising all head coaches, staff, and administrative personnel; developing and administering the annual budget for the department; strategic planning; fund raising; organizing the use of athletic facilities and demonstrating a commitment to diversity in recruitment and retention of coaches, staff, and student athletes; and ensuring the department's compliance with Title IX.
“We recognize that there is strong community interest in the selection of UMD’s next athletic director, and we are conducting a thorough national search to find the best individual to take our tradition of excellence in athletics and academics to the next level. Professor Vince Magnuson, former Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration at UMD, has agreed to serve as chairman of a search committee composed of student athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and alumni,” said UMD Chancellor Lendley “Lynn” Black.
