BadgerCare phone scam ringing in WI

April 8, 2014 Updated Apr 8, 2014 at 11:28 AM CST

Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- If you get a call from BadgerCare asking for your bank information, authorities say you should hang up, because it's a phone scam.

Scammers are calling people and requesting their bank account information claiming to represent the BadgerCare Plus health care program.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is alerting consumers that BadgerCare Plus members were recently targeted, and told they were eligible for a $200 stipend from the state. The callers asked for their bank account information in order to make the deposit.

BadgerCare Plus already has all of their members account information and only requires birth date verification, so legitimate representatives will never ask for account information. If you receive such a call you should not give out any account information, and hang up.
