Duluth, MN(NNCNOW.com) -- It was a project ten years in the making!

The city of Beaver Bay is celebrating the start of a construction site for the new Beaver Bay Trailhead and Wayside Rest.

The new facility will serve as a trailhead to the Gitchi Gami State Trail that will include a new completed trail segment connecting the West road in Beaver Bay to the city of Silver Bay.

The trailhead will include parking, paved pathways, picnic tables, and restrooms that will cater to residents and visitors along highway 61.

"It'll be a great stopping place for people on the trail, as well as others using Highway 61 coming up the North Shore. It's going to be a great addition, I think to the North Shore and to Beaver Bay", said Mayor of Beaver Bay Kent Shamblin

Construction of the Trailhead and Wayside is expected to be completed by spring 2015 and is expected to be open to the public by summer 2015.
