Bemidji, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A warning about venturing onto ice covered lakes this time of the year.

An SUV made it about a 100 yards before going through the ice Thursday morning on Lake Bemidji.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says there should be at least eight to 12 inches of clear ice to support a car or small truck, but recommend it's never safe to be out on the ice.
