Bentleyville Lawsuit Update
Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Duluth Committee of the Whole met behind closed doors tonight to discuss the free speech case of Bentleyville. Steve Jankowski a lay preacher and Peter Scott, a member of his congregation brought the case against the city. A judge ruled in favor of the two preachers in December, saying Duluth police asked the men to leave Bentleyville, violating their rights to share their views on public property, including on the grounds of Bentleyville. No decision was made on Thursday. City councilors are hopeful they can come to an agreement soon. "Bentleyville is a huge event here in the city of Duluth and something that we support and continue to support, so that's why you see our city attorneys and our staff in general fighting for what we can do to make Bentleyville a great family event for everybody," said Dan Hartman, City Council Member. Unless the two sides come to an agreement, a judge will decide the course of action on July 24.
