Better Business Bureau warns consumers of sweepstakes prizes

March 27, 2014 Updated Mar 27, 2014 at 1:15 PM CDT

Burnsville, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota have received numerous complaints from consumers about notices in the mail informing them that they have won a Publisher's Clearing House, Reader's Digest and other promising sounding sweepstakes.

With the notices, consumers receive checks that range from a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. The Better Business Bureau says consumers can prevent falling for false sweepstakes by checking the logos of national companies and phone numbers that are listed.

If you receive any notification that you are a prize winner in a lottery or sweepstakes, you are asked to contact the Better Business Bureau, before becoming a victim of these scams.
