Superior, WI (Northland's Newscenter) - Little did a small business owner in Superior know that a "cookie contest" would lead to a visit by the Vice President of the United States.

On his way out of town Joe Biden stopped at the Red Mug Coffee Shop on Hammond and Broadway.

His advance team learned about the cookie contest earlier this week.
The Red Mug is selling blue cookies with a donkey on them...and red cookies featuring an elephant.

The Vice President couldn't resist weighing in with his vote.

"He was really happy to see that the democrat cookies were about six to one over the republicans. And he bought some bread and came down and had coffee and talked with people. He was probably here for about an hour," Suzanne Johnson, Red Mug Owner, said.

"So instead of going to see the Vice President speak, I had to come into work, you know, do the whole job responsibility thing, but it all worked out. It was fantastic. What a life changing experience," Calvin Wing, a Red Mug Employee, said.

Blue cookies have been selling six to one compared to the red ones at the Red Mug.

The proprietor says one reason that may be...is that there are a lot of old Hippies who love her cookies.

As of tonight, the blue cookies have been sold out.
