Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A big band with a big sound, and a big heart, was the center of a big benefit at the Rex in Duluth Saturday night.

Northland funk/soul band, and local favorites, Big Wave Dave and the Ripples are no strangers to the Rex's stage.

But the Big Time Jazz Orchestra, which also calls Duluth home, isn't on your typical Rex lineup.

On Saturday, however, they were welcome performers on stage as the boys in Big Wave Dave hosted an evening of music to raise money for the orchestra.

Big Time has held many benefit concerts of their own in their 24 years.
According to Big Wave Dave himself, their sound is the style that inspired generations to come.

"It's all about getting people out there, and getting them moving," said Dave, "that's been something that bands have been trying to do for a long time... before the 60's and 70s soul sound that we're going for, and I think that this captures it."

And, of course, Big Wave Dave and the Ripples finished off the evening strong with a three hour setlist until close.
