Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Thursday was a big night for volunteers with the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The theme of this year's appreciation and awards dinner was "A difference made in 2013.” From single family home fires to the German Road fire in Douglas County that destroyed 47 structures, the Northland Chapter responded to 77 disasters in our eight county area.

Red Cross volunteers worked tirelessly to provide emotional support and immediate shelter needs. Services that made a world of difference for those caught up in disaster.

"The Red Cross was there to help immediately and to give the help that was nee4ded and connect it to people and connecting it to us,” Ron and Lorraine Simpson (lost their home in a fire) said.

The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross has over 150 dedicated volunteers who make a difference in our communities every day.
