Blessing of the Port kicks off shipping season

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The first day of spring kicks off the unofficial start to 2014 the shipping season.

The Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers hosted the "Blessing of the Port" event.

Northlanders gathered to offer prayers for the cruise ships that are expected this summer.

They also blessed the crews aboard cargo vessels.

"It's always a hopeful time when we start to see that traffic and the bridge going up and knowing that winter, yes, will end," Duluth Mayor Don Ness said.

The tourism season in Canal Park starts May 15.
