Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Sometimes saving a life can happen in the most unusual places.
24-year-old Walgreens employee Scott Hensley took time Tuesday to donate blood in his job's parking lot.
He learned in school he was O negative.
"I'll give as much as they can legally take before you know, I have to stop giving it," Hensley said.
Memorial Blood Centers is parking its van at a number of Walgreens throughout the this week.
There's a critical need for blood types like Hensley's.
"It's very important for accidents, Any kind of trauma, O negative is also given to babies in neonatal," said Jean Bennett with Memorial Blood Centers.
Summer can be a challenging time due to vacations and college and high school breaks.
"You never know when your loved one might need that blood," Bennett said.
Hensley's first time giving blood could be enough to help save three lives.
"Somebody that'll I pass on the street will have my blood, someday, that's really cool," said Hensley.
Donating blood takes a total of 45 minutes.
If you register to give blood during the five-day campaign you'll get a free pint of ice cream.
