Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center has created its third annual calendar which will be sold at Super One Food stores starting today.

The theme of the 2014 calendar is 'Celebrating their Service' featuring Notable Northlanders recreating iconic images from different generations.

The iconic images come from our community and range from real-life veterans to recruiting posters from the many different wars.

In 2012 the calendar focused on a mix of different imagery, and the theme for last year's calendar was famous historical movie images.

The money raised from these calendars will help the historical center keep its doors open throughout the winter, which is a slower time for the museum.

This year's calendar captures a special piece of American history with each page turned.

"There's one image in particular which is a December image, which is of a World War Two young man going off to war, and his father was in World War One. So they did a father and son photo,” the President of Kerns and Company which produced the calendar, Ryan Kern, said.

“And we took that photo and that's a local photograph here from the Twin Ports. And then we used Pat Kelly to play the World War Two father, and Abbott Apter to play the World War Two enlisted man going to serve his country,” Kern said.

Our station's very own Barbara Reyelts can be found in the July month of the 2014 calendar depicting a 1943 poster emphasizing that protecting democracy in World War Two was everyone's responsibility.
