Cloquet, MN ( - As the snow continues to melt and winds pick up in Minnesota, burning restrictions have been implemented for the central part of the state. According to the DNR as of Monday, April 14th, 15 central Minnesota counties now have burning restrictions. They include Anoka, Hennepin, and Stearns County. On April 21st, 13 counties will be added to that list, including Aitkin and Crow Wing County. The DNR says the restrictions mean the state will not give out burning permits for burning brush or yard waste. Fire Team Leader Pat Wherley in Cloquet says the restrictions are meant to limit burning until summer green up occurs. While inches of snow still remain throughout the Northland, Wherley says fire conditions can change quickly. "When that snow goes, and we get those warmer days when the wind kicks up, that's when we can expect the... fire season to kick in," said Wherley, standing alongside one of his office's many response vehicles. Wherley says, as of now, he expects Carlton and South Saint Louis Counties to be under burning restrictions by April 28th.
