Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - In a relatively fast paced legislative session making sure your voice is heard at the Capitol is key.

"We think it's important we're down now in the second week of the session, early, early on so we can set the stage for what we're seeking and the rationale of why it should be supported," said Roger Wedin, the director of policy & education at the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.

The stage will be set next Wednesday, March 12th and lawmakers are taking note.

"It's very helpful from students to non-profits to the business community it's really is a day where we get to tell our story," said Sen. Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth).

The city of Duluth is pushing for money to help with several construction projects in the city.

The city is asking for $5.7 million for Wade Stadium renovations, $3.4 million for a water transport system for Spirit Mountain and $6.9 million for NorShor Theatre renovations.

"The projects we're asking for support for are high profile and resonate. They also have local money involved that makes legislators recognize that we have skin in the game as well," said Wedin.

St. Louis County is hoping to secure funding to improve the Northeast Regional Corrections Center and to create a northern home for the St. Louis County Sheriff's Volunteer Squad.

It's a push that takes a team effort.

"We're talking literally 100 people will be down if their history proves itself, that personal touch that we're really committed," said Wedin.

They have been committed for seventeen years in a row.

"Many communities do this day at the capitol. Duluth was the first. Duluth and Saint Louis County. It's still the best and biggest," Sen. Reinert said.
