Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Drivers on parts of I–35 in Carlton and St. Louis County could encounter some lane restrictions.
MnDOT is installing cable median barriers along nine miles of the highway.
During the project, sections of I–35 will be down to one northbound lane from six a.m. on Mondays to noon on Fridays.
Parts of southbound I–35 will be closed from six a.m. on Mondays to 7 p.m. on Fridays.
MnDOT officials say cable median barriers can reduce fatal crashes by 90–percent.
"Well, the cable median barriers prevent vehicles that go out of control from crossing over the median and colliding with an oncoming vehicle, so they really save a lot of lives that way," said MnDOT Project Engineer, Aaron Gunderson, "Those are the most deadly of crashes."
The project is expected to be completed in mid–October.
