Lost? Historic Skyline Parkway Will Soon Have Signs

DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - If you've ever had trouble finding your way on Skyline Parkway, there will soon be new signs along the historic scenic byway this spring.

The city along with the Skyline Parkway Planning and Preservation Alliance, got a $79,000 federal grant for the signs.

The 28-mile Skyline Parkway extends from the Lester River to Jay Cooke State Park.

Many drivers have complained about the different street names that can be challenging and confusing for travelers.

The public gave input on two sign designs at an open house tonight.

"We've heard wonderful things about the moon and how the moon set over the lake and the beautiful vistas and the historic rock, all part of the integrity of the historical byway and then the other design not in the picture is more of a modern interpretation of the same," said Richard Lang of Visual Communications.

The signs, which are part of a larger Skyline Parkway project, will be put up in May.

Mayor Don Ness has committed to restoring the scenic byway and plans to overlay a section of the road this summer under the Street Improvement Program.
