Duluth, MN (Northland’s NewsCenter)--- The proposed constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman will be before Minnesota voters in the fall.
At a Vote Yes Event Sunday afternoon, dozens of Catholics discussed ways the amendment will affect society.
Guest Speaker, Teresa Collett, described several consequences that may occur if marriage is re-defined as a genderless institution.
She provided specific examples of how individuals, small businesses and religious organizations have faced profound consequences for their beliefs in marriage.
Collett says marriage is a relationship that should be reserved for a man and a woman because the intimate relationship has the ability to produce children.
"Two widows who are living next door to each other and taking care of each other,” Collett said. “There are legal actions that we can take that can encourage them to take care of each other. Minor changes of inheritance laws, some changes in other areas."
Collette encouraged people at the vote yes event to make phone calls and urge other voters to vote yes.
Each phone call she says, saves the campaign nearly $2.
