SUPERIOR, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - Toys were piled high at New Horizons Children's Center in Superior, but they weren't for the kids who use the daycare center.

The toys and money were collected from staff and the daycare families over the course of the summer for Toys for Tots.

The final count included about 200 toys and $600.

Thursday, the Superior Fire Department, which is working with the children's center, came to pick up the first load of toys.

"We've always kind of done something, but we've done it more around Christmas time actually like sponsoring a child or a family, and this time we kind of thought, you know, middle of summer, who's really collecting toys and that type of stuff, so we thought it would be almost easier for people to participate," said Cindy Fennessey, owner of New Horizons Children's Center.

The firemen will be picking up the remaining toys Friday.
