Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Duluth City Council decided unanimously Monday to spare city retirees from having to pay back a miscalculation involving their retiree benefits.
The Duluth City Council voted 9-0 to have the city pay back thousands of dollars in overpayments made by the Public Employees Retirement Association.
Approximately 108 retired employees received $305,000 more than they were due following a miscalculation of benefits by PERA.
At the same time, the city made $390,000 in over payments to the Association.
The council decided a portion of the city's refund will be used to repay the money owed by city retirees.
