Cloquet Woman Charged with 1st Degree Attempted Murder
Carlton, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- A Cloquet woman is now facing the possibility of life in prison following charges filed Tuesday by Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler.
Marie Majerle has now been charged with 1st Degree Attempted Murder for allegedly shooting her husband in the chest on Sunday.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday says the couple is estranged and going through a separation or divorce.
It also says Marie Majerle gave three conflicting statements to police in the days after she was taken into custody.
Written statements from her husband Richard Majerle say just before he was shot the two were drinking and talking around three Sunday morning at Richard's house.
Then he said Marie asked him to start a sauna while she went to get some pills.
When she came back about five minutes later, Richard Majerle told police she brought a .22 caliber rifle and shot him in the chest.
Richard told police that after he was shot he tried to call 911 but Marie took the phone away from him.
911 tapes confirm the initial call and hang up.
Police do not know how Marie acquired the weapon, but do say the serial numbers on the .22 were ground down recently, which is another crime Marie is charged with.
