Duluth, MN (Northland's Newscenter) - Tuesday is Food Day, which is a nationwide event to raise awareness about sustainable food and healthy eating habits.

To honor the event, The College of Saint Scholastica hosted an open house at its new green rooftop garden.

Here, students and community members were able to learn about the program to grow food for the college campus.

"We've provided a lot of the greens for a big dinner back in June, for the salads, some onions, we've done some radishes. We experimented with herbs this summer," Jane Wattrus, a CSS Biology Professor said.

The college is also using the tomatoes and peppers grown at the facility.

Wattrus says the new green house and roof area has a state–of–the–art heating and cooling system and replaces the old structure that was no longer functional.
