Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The United Methodist Church in Duluth has been transformed into a meal–packing site to help feed hungry children around the world.
The effort is part of Feed My Starving Children, a Minnesota Based organization which will distribute the food bags to 70 different countries.
Volunteers were busy assembling and packaging rice– and soy–based meals Saturday afternoon at the Coppertop.
Organizers say the hand packed meals are specifically formulated for malnourished children.
"It's part of an effort of the United Methodist Church in Minnesota to, this spring, pack 1 million meals to be sent across the world," said Pastor David Bard, of the United Methodist Church, "we as a church entity and individuals, we want to help other people when there is a need we like to respond, and so it's a great way to do that."
One meals costs 22 cents to produce, and 90 percent of the total donations go directly to the food program.
