Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - At-large city councilor Jim Stauber announced his candidacy for the vacant St. Louis County Board seat.

Stauber announced his candidacy on the steps of city center in Duluth on Monday for the second district seat on the St. Louis County Board.

The seat was left vacant by the late Commissioner Steve O'Neil, who passed away in July, a position O'Neil held since 2005.

With more than 12 years experience serving on the city level, Stauber says his years of commitment will be an easy transition to the St. Louis County Board.

"I've also had an opportunity to work with many county commissioners over my past twelve years on some issues, some consolidation issues. One of the big ones was, consolidating the city auditors office with the county auditors department and becoming more efficient, more cost effective, I see all those things as kind of a good fit for me," said Jim Stauber, St. Louis County Board candidate.

Stauber says he is committed to his duties on the Duluth City Council until his current term expires in January 2014.

A special election to fill the vacant St. Louis County Board seat will be held in January.
