Rep. Cravaack Happy with District 8's New Boundaries

DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - The lines are drawn and a lot of Northland politicians are breathing easier.

The courts today revealed a map showing very little change for Northland State and Federal political Districts.

Congressional District Eight didn't change much, but it did pick-up part of Beltrami County along the Western border.

The map here shown in the picture above shows the new federal district lines in green and the former lines in yellow.

Both Republican Congressman Chip Cravaack and one of his DFL challengers say the redistricting decision from the courts makes them happy.

"We've done a lot of work up here and I'm glad I can stay in the district and continue on with that work. We're pretty excited about it. Our team shouted out a big hurray when those lines came out," said Cravaack.

"No drastic changes. It's what's best for the district. It's what's best for the people of the district. It's great for Democrats as we work to take back this seat in 2012," said DFL challenger Jeff Anderson.

Minnesota Republicans had sought to have the eighth district cover the top third of the state.

New district lines are drawn every ten years after the census to reflect population shifts.
