Crews responding to three water main breaks in Duluth

December 19, 2013 Updated Dec 19, 2013 at 10:22 AM CST

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- City crews are responding to water main breaks in three neighborhoods across Duluth.

The breaks are located on Rice’s Point, a residential area in the Woodland neighborhood and in the Harbor Highlands neighborhood along Central Entrance.

A 12 inch water main break on Rice’s Point Water will result in water being turned off at 11:00 am impacting businesses in that area. Another water main break in the Woodland neighborhood will also require that water to be turned off. A third break is a leaking 8 inch valve in the Harbor Highlands neighborhood.

Crews say breaks are typically caused by changing temperatures that shift pipes underground.

The Public Works and Utility crews discovered the breaks Wednesday night and have been working to isolate the locations. Crews will be working throughout the day today and hope to finish repairs by late evening, pending no complications.

The City thanks the public for their patience as crews work to make these three repairs in difficult weather conditions.
