Cloquet, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Residents in Carlton County have reason to smile, thanks to a dentist office...on wheels.
U-Care members received dental exams, cleanings and fluoride treatments for free Monday aboard UCare's Mobile Dental Clinic.
The Dentist office on wheels is a fully equipped 43-foot-vehicle that brings dental care to UCare members in Minnesota who have limited access to dental services.
Dental and hygiene students from UMD School of Dentistry will be treating patients in Carlton County all week while under faculty supervision.
Carmen Reao said this particular dental office gives patients a new experience...even if they may be leery of it at first.
"Normally they are a little scared at first because they don't know how a bus can have a dental chair but as soon as they come in they get excited about being there and they like it," said Reao.
UCare is the first health plan in Minnesota to own and operate a mobile dental clinic and travels 15,000 miles annually across Minnesota.
