Department of Commerce data incident being investigated

May 6, 2014 Updated May 6, 2014 at 1:11 PM CDT

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Department of Commerce has learned that the private data of a Minnesota real estate broker was inappropriately printed on a postcard to notify them of their upcoming license renewal.

The Department says upon learning of the incident late Monday night, Commissioner Mike Rothman initiated an investigation to determine how the release of information occurred and has contacted the Office of the Legislative Auditor.

The Department says they take these situations very seriously, along with their responsibility to protect the personal data of Minnesotans and licensed professionals. Their incident response team is trying to determine how many people are affected by the problem.
