Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --Labor day weekend is one of the busiest traffic weekends of the year and officials are advising drivers to be extra alert.

Around parts of the Duluth, people should be aware of a few construction projects which could slow traffic and cause some congestion.

Motorists can expect traffic to go down to a single lane on I–35 and also on the north bound lane on the Blatnick Bridge.

Another project that could slow divers down is between Highway 1 and 169.

Officials say crews will not be working during the holiday weekend, but to be aware of equipment in those areas.

"With the holiday weekend and a lot of extra cars on the road we would ask motorist to be safe, especially in our work zones. Drive for the conditions, wear seat belts, keep safe driving distances, keep their eyes on the road," said Beth Petrowske from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Officials say that distracted driving is the leading cause of vehicle accidents.
