Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Northland kids had the opportunity tonight to gain a better understanding of how the Holidays are celebrated around the world.

The Duluth Children's Museum hosted an event where kids made ornaments and played games associated with a particular region's holiday.

Some of the holidays represented included Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, the Chinese New Year, and Scandinavian Christmas.

The event was for children of all ages and organizers are hopeful it will foster understanding of different cultures.

"A way for them to see how diverse the world is, but also kind of some of the things that everybody shares in common no matter where they're from, you know everyone celebrates with food and music, there are things that everyone has in common so hopefully the kids pick up on that," said Peter Jacobsen, the educational director for the museum.

The Duluth Children's Museum will host more educational events throughout the month.
