Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- The Duluth City Council discussed a resolution to appoint someone to fill the second council district seat left vacant by Patrick Boyle.

The city council is accepting applications and will conduct interviews on February 6th.

A special meeting will be held on February 10th; at which point, councilors will rank their top picks and appoint a candidate to the seat.

The person picked will represent the second council district for two years.

"I think it's really imperative that it be as open and transparent as humanly possible because this is an appointment and this is an appointment that will last for two years," said Sharla Gardner, who represents the third council district.

Pending approval of the resolution at the meeting on Monday; all applications need to be submitted to the city clerk's office by 4:30 pm on January 31.
