DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Those hoping to visit the Bentleyville Tour of Lights this holiday season may find it easier to park in downtown Duluth.

The Duluth City Council is expected to approve a resolution at its next meeting allowing free nighttime parking throughout downtown Duluth.

The resolution would make seven downtown parking ramps free after 5:00 p.m. and parking meters free after 5:30 p.m.

Officials said the goal of the free parking is to make the holiday season a better experience for everyone.

"We think free parking adds to the overall environment, makes the experience even better for people when they come down to Bentleyville," president of the Greater Downtown Council Kristi Stokes said, "and makes it more accessible for them to experience the whole downtown."

The Bentleyville Tour of Lights will open on Saturday November 20, one day after the annual Christmas City of the North Parade.
