Duluth, Minn (NNCNOW.com) - A crowd of proud supporters packed the Duluth Police Department headquarters to welcome a new league of officers.

Nine officers were sworn into duty Thursday afternoon by St. Louis County Chief Judge Shaun Floerke.

Since 2010 the department has hired 40 officers of varying backgrounds to represent the men and women of the Duluth Police force.

One newly sworn in officer says growing up as the son of a retired Duluth Policer, there's no other city he would like to serve and protect.

"This means a lot this is the most important day of my life, my dad was a police officer here for 20 years, I've been looking forward to this day. It's a great department and I love it," said officer Michael Renier, Duluth Police Department.

Currently more than 150 officers are part of the Duluth Police force.
