Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Duluth School District will join in a national observance on Friday in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting.

The large bell in the Historic Old Central High School clock tower will begin tolling at 8:30AM and toll 26 times - once for each life lost at the school.

20 children and six adults died in the Newtown, CT shooting one week ago Friday when 20-year-old Adam Lanza walked into the school and opened fire.

Friday's bell ringing will be a part of a national observance initiated by Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy. He has asked that churches and other government buildings ring their bells 26 times at 9:30 a.m. EST, the time the incident occurred.
