Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Steve Ondrus, of Duluth Edison Charter Schools North Star Academy, was awarded with $1,000 in school supplies as part of Office Max's "A Day Made Better" advocacy program.

The program hopes to ease the financial burden for teachers, who often spend up to $1,000, out–of–pocket, to maintain their classrooms.

North Star Head of School, Bonnie Jorgenson, says she nominated Ondrus for the award after receiving positive feedback from students and families.

"If they're enjoying what I'm doing, I feel like that's kind of the name of the game of the job. If they're enjoying coming to school, and they're enjoying learning, that's kind of the whole point of teaching," said Ondrus, who has been with the school for over 15 years.

Along with the award, another $1,000 donation of supplies was given to the entire school.
