ELY, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---The lack of snow this winter hasn't stopped the town of Ely from hosting its annual Ely Winter Festival.
The festivals main attraction, the Snow Sculpting Symposium was in jeopardy last week.
But community members came to the rescue, filling about 14 large bins in Ely's Whiteside Park with snow from around the area.
Some of the largest bins hold 1,600 cubic feet of snow.
Professional artists will now be able to carve sculptures in the snow mounds.
There is no theme to this years Snow Sculpting Symposium.
Five teams made of artists from around the state and Canada will begin sculpting next Thursday.
The festival runs Feb., 2-12.
