Ely, MN (NNCNOW.com)
Ely people call this hill behind the trees the rock crusher.
75 or so years ago, Ely Greenstone was ground into powder here though few remember why anymore.
Ely Echo newspaper photographer Pam Roberts knows the owners of the property and has permission to take a little now and then.
It's a tough job.
"The last load I hauled out of there, I had to climb over wood piles and rock piles in five gallon pails, filled my truck and blew two tires on my truck." said Pam Roberts.
Roberts uses the rock for grit for soap she makes and markets.
Greenstone is just one of her not so secret ingredients.
The other comes from Cindy Kay here: goat milk.
According to Roberts, it's the stuff that makes her Anyware brand soap special.
"Oh, creaminess, calcium, PH balance; it's just the perfect thing for human skin." said Roberts.
Ely's winter festival is coming up this week and one might not think sculpting snow gets one very dirty but carver Nancy Scheibe feels differently.
She uses the stuff after a hard day's work.
"Pam's goat soap is wonderful. The fragrances aren't too strong and she has an unscented. It leaves your skin feeling really smooth and soft. I love her soap." said Scheibe.
Anyware soap comes in jars and bars.
Other goats called the Sunshine Girls help Cindy Kay make the milk.
People like Nancy Schiebe use it because it works and it supports a local entrepreneur.
"Very fun using a local product and the thing about it is Pam is so wonderful you just want to support her as well. She is just a wonderful human being." said Scheibe.
Roberts has been making her soaps for 12 years now.
It's a sustainable product because the Sunshine Girls keep giving generation after generation.
"I have two pregnant does so we'll have another cycle of the whole thing happening beginning this spring." said Roberts.

Anyware Goat Milk Soap's third semi–secret ingredient is rain water. The soap is available in Ely at stores like Zup's and online.
