Morse Township, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- An Ely man has died after he and two others were ejected from their boat at a high rate of speed on Lake Shagawa Friday night.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a cell phone caller on an island on Shagawa Lake, in Morse Township, just before 5:30 Saturday morning.

The caller and other survivor claimed they had struck a rock near the island at a high rate of speed Friday evening, throwing all three men from the boat and onto the rocky island.

23-year-old Brice Dale Bundy, of Ely, died at the scene from his injuries.

The driver, 27–year–old Nicholas Earl White, of Babbitt, and passenger Matthew Grant Christopherson sustained non–life threatening injuries, and were rescued by the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Ely Police Department, Ely Ambulance, Morse Fire Department and Morse First Responders.

Sergeant Grant Toma says White and Christopherson claim they were forced to wait until sunrise to find their cell phones after the crash.

He adds the crash is an active investigation, and that it’s not known at this time if alcohol was a factor.
