Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is reporting a very successful outcome for it's 20th annual Empty Bowl fundraiser.

The event took place on Tuesday at the Depot and raised a better-than-expected $59,249.

Second Harvest Food Bank will be able to supply enough food for 242,000 meals through this fundraiser.

Executive Director Shaye Moris attributes the great results this year to a slight increase in community members and school children pre-purchasing bowls, an increase in the on-line auction and Silent Auction.

The empty bowl event started back in 1994 and has now raised $817,230 to feed the hungry.

The amount of money has helped Second Harvest provide more than four million meals to those in need.
