Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - As a newly endorsed DFL candidate looks toward the prospects of a new future in politics, it's the end of an era for the well–known Willard Munger Inn, in Duluth.
Since its construction in the 1950s, the Munger Inn has been known for supporting progressive candidates in Duluth.
That's about to change however as the Munger Inn is set to be sold, and a new buyer has already been found.
But for Sunday it was business as usual, as current owners Will and Sally Munger hosted a celebration for District 7–A House candidate Jennifer Schultz.
Schultz won the DFL Party endorsement in March. And while the support of the Munger family is behind her, it will likely be for the last time in the Inn.
"I think it's appropriate that we're here at the Munger Inn," sais Schultz, inside the Inn. "It has a long history and tradition of celebrating and organizing progressive candidates and I want to carry on that tradition."
"We're also celebrating the history of the Willard Munger Inn," said owner Will Munger, "and this is going to be one of the final political party's that's held here."
Schultz will go on to run against Republican candidate Becky Hall in November.
