New Guidance Documents Aim to Keep All Kids in School

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The U.S. Department of Education announced today an addition to admissions guidance for school districts designed to ensure equal access for all children to public schools.

The new guidelines are intended to shore up guidance documents that were established in 2011 following a Supreme Court ruling that rejected immigration status, race or lack of documentation as viable reasons for denying school enrollment.

The literature emphasizes that children cannot be denied enrollment even if their parents lack identification, birth certificates or proof of citizenship or other requirements based on nationality or personal background.

U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan said, "The message here is clear: let all children who live in your district enroll in your public schools."
